He has one last meal with Jet and has one last conversation with Faye before he confronts Vicious one last time - a fight he knows can result in his own death. For him, this means killing Vicious once and for all. With Julia dead, Spike has no choice but to confront his past and permanently cut ties with the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate. He nearly succeeds, but makes one fatal mistake: he kills Julia in the process. It is learned in this episode that Vicious has been planning a coup of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate for some time and attempts to execute it. They must first take care of one major problem, however: Vicious. When Spike and Julia reunite for the first time in three years, they both decide to pick up where they left off. As such, she knew Faye was a friend of Spike's and asked her to tell Spike to meet her at their agreed meeting place from three years prior.įaye keeps her promise to Julia and relays her message to Spike. It is revealed in this episode that Julia has always been aware of Spike's new lifestyle as well as his new relationships.

Spike's storyline comes full circle in the two-part finale, "The Real Folk Blues Parts 1 & 2." Julia appears for the first time in this episode and is encountered by Faye Valentine. Spike thus walks away with the thing he dislikes most and misses out on a bigger payout. During a fatal police chase, when the choice is made between saving the highly valuable dog and Hakim, Spike ends up saving the dog (to his dismay) and allows Hakim to be captured by police. Spike is actually after the bounty on Hakim but ends up getting custody of the dog instead. He is initially stolen by one Abdul Hakim, who plans to sell him to the highest bidder before he quickly loses control of the situation when the dog is stolen by a petty thief. As such, he has a higher level of intelligence than other dogs and is worth a fortune.
In the episode, Ein is a "data dog" that was subject to illegal experimentation. While Spike is confident in his abilities to the point of a little arrogance, his second case involving Ein reveals another aspect of his character: he really doesn't like animals that are kept as pets. Spike and Jet shared a familiar glance before getting up and followed Ed down the corridor towards the nursery room. Most of the other people in the room eyed her with a scornful look.
When the Magician shows up, it doesn't reveal itself right away.The second episode of the anime, "Stray Dog Strut," continues to showcase Spike's skills as a bounty hunter, but also introduces another valuable member of the Bebop: a welsh corgi Jet names Ein.
